OLTD-501 Introduction to Online Learning
Goals met:
- Demonstrate basic competency with design and implementation within a variety of online learning environments and tools
- Plan learning opportunities most suitable to the strengths and challenges of a variety of environments
- Develop and design intentional learning activities suitable for the appropriate environment
The Knight Learning Model begins with an instructional plan. The unit plan is based on the answers to the following questions. What needs to be instructed? What are the needs of the student? Is the student working from home, school, or a combination of both? What resources and constraints does the educator have? What are the prescribed learning outcomes? Through experience and experiments, I have developed the Knight Learning Model. I found this assignment more challenging than I thought it would. Perhaps putting your design online meant that it had to be prefect. Education, though, is ever changing and never perfect! I was worried about the presentation of the material so I took my time in looking at the different models presented and in considering what theories best represented me. I was unsure of how to best show the model and how elaborate to make it. Finally, I decided on a simple that had lots of flexibility. The ever changing model can adapt to changes in teaching philosophy or technology. This change can occur at any point in a unit or learning plan. I also felt it very important to include the student (and family) into the planning process. First the enables the learner to have choices on what and how the material is covered. By including the student, relationships are naturally built. This model can be used in a classroom, online, or a combination of both. This project helped me to formally understand how to design a unit or program for students to be successful in online learning environments. This model is important to me as it lays the foundation of how I go about supporting online learners.

- Demonstrate basic competency with design and implementation within a variety of online learning environments and tools
- Plan learning opportunities most suitable to the strengths and challenges of a variety of environments
- Develop and design intentional learning activities suitable for the appropriate environment and the learner
"I Imagine" is what I would like online education to be. There are 12 powerpoint slides. Each slide has a captions indicating what my goals of online education are. The most powerful slide to me is slide 10. "I Imagine the enabled". This project helped me to see what is truly important in online learning. It also showed me how powerful online learning can be. I love online learning, but this assignment excites me. As a classroom teacher, I often feel limited as to what I can do. With online teaching there doesn't seem to be any limits. As a teacher, I want all students to have successful. Knowing what my true goals are will allow me to plan learning opportunities most suitable for online environments. "I Imagine" is my dream for the future. The O.L.T.D. program is my step towards that goal.
